Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

We respect children’s voices and view them as capable and competent

We view children as active learners and respect their ability to direct and initiate their own learning and play experiences. We give children opportunities to be involved in decision making and include their ideas in curriculum.

We believe in children’s right to be safe, loved, respected and valued

Each child is unique and special. We respect and support each child’s abilities, strengths and individuality. Strong positive relationships are the foundation of effective learning in the early years of children’s lives. We are committed to developing secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships with children by providing consistent emotional support and demonstrating positive interactions.

We celebrate and recognise the diversity of Australian culture

Children will feel a sense of security and belonging when their identities are respected within the early childhood setting. We celebrate the languages, traditions, values, beliefs, child rearing practices and lifestyle choices of all families. We honour children’s rights to have their cultures and identities acknowledged and valued within the curriculum by including a range of resources and experiences that reflect the diversity of the families. We demonstrate respect, provide opportunities and assist children in developing positive attitudes towards similarities and differences.

We build and maintain effective partnerships with children, families, educators and communities

We develop effective communication and positive relationships with families in order to have an understanding of children’s worlds, the diverse needs of all children and family expectations. These partnerships create opportunities for educators to find ways to connect the curriculum to children’s worlds and for children to demonstrate their knowledge and extend their interests in the early childhood setting, resulting in quality practices and genuine learning experiences.

We believe in reflective practice, critical action and change

To ensure high quality care and education of all children, our educators engage in ongoing evaluation of practices and undertake professional training and development. We use various strategies to collect and document children’s learning. These evaluations will be assessed and evaluated to enable us to develop a responsive curriculum that will help children reach their full potential.

We are committed to preparing children for success in life

Swan Academy helps children build an excellent foundation for their future by providing quality care, education and a positive learning environment. We provide responsive curriculum to enhance children’s confidence, abilities and life skills. We ensure smooth transition from early childhood education to school through our programs.
